Spring is full of color. Everywhere you turn, bright yellows, purples, whites, and pinks flood the landscape and create a canvas of pure happiness. One might go out on a limb and say it’s downright cheerful. In the spring, skies are bluer, the clouds are more white, and the return of green grass blankets nature’s floor. The sun shines brighter and longer while red buds dot the tree branches.
And then there’re the flowers...
With all the quarantining and social distancing we’ve endured these last few weeks, we need to keep our eyes open for all the happy colors in our beautiful town. If you’re getting out of the house for a drive down a backroad or going for a walk, look for some of these flowering trees, shrubs, and flowers that will be blooming over the next few weeks or have already started blooming.
Spring flower bulbs are planted in the fall and will bloom the following spring. Blooming times will be clearly labeled on packages as “early,” “mid,” or “late” in spring. Patience is a virtue over the winter and well worth the wait when you see them pop through the soil come spring.

Following this beautiful wave of spring colors, they’ll be another wave of colors; lavender lilacs, magenta azaleas, pink mountain laurels, purple rhododendrons, and white viburnums. I dare you to not to notice these beautiful colors. Colors are the smiles of nature and we should take the time to smile back, especially during a time when we’re overwhelmed, stressed, and perhaps even frightened.
Stay healthy and get outside!
